On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Cameroonian Association of Philadelphia proudly hosted a vibrant Food Tasting Event in the iconic Caucus Room of Philadelphia City Hall. This memorable gathering was made possible through the generous support of Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier and her dedicated team.

The event brought together an esteemed group of public officials and community leaders, including Councilwoman Rue Landau, Councilman Jeffery Young, Anthony Phillips (District 9), Hon. Stan Straughter, Chairman Emeritus of ACBC, Vincent Thompson, Director of Communications for City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, and Alain Joinville from the Office of the Managing Director.

Coinciding with a significant moment in the city’s legislative history—the passage of the “ICE Out” bills aimed at strengthening protections for immigrant communities—the event carried a deeper sense of purpose and unity. It highlighted the power of cultural exchange in fostering inclusion, understanding, and community resilience.

Following a public announcement during the City Council session, the event welcomed a diverse and enthusiastic audience. Guests gathered alongside council members and staff to experience the richness of Cameroonian cuisine, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The dishes, prepared with care and authenticity, quickly became a centerpiece of conversation and connection.

The menu featured a variety of traditional favorites, including Ndolé, a savory blend of bitter leaf, peanuts, beef, shrimp, and smoked turkey; Mbongo (African spicy black stew) infused with rich, aromatic spices; grilled chicken; seasoned beans; puff-puff; fried plantains; steamed cassava; and sweet peanuts. Each dish offered guests a unique taste of Cameroon’s culinary heritage.

During the program, the Chair of the Cameroonian Cultural Center spoke passionately about the depth and diversity of Cameroonian culture. The moment also served as a call to action, inviting community members and partners to support the vision of establishing the first Cameroonian Cultural Center in North America—a space dedicated to preserving and celebrating this vibrant heritage for generations to come.

This event was more than a culinary showcase; it was a celebration of identity, community, and shared values. As reflected in the smiles, conversations, and empty plates, the evening was a true success—one that strengthened bonds and opened doors for future collaboration.
